National

Live updates: U.S. coronavirus outbreaks are ‘extraordinarily widespread,’ says Birx-Washington Post. The United States has entered a “new phase” of the novel coronavirus pandemic, Deborah Birx, the physician overseeing the White House’s epidemic response, said Sunday. Outbreaks are increasing in rural and urban areas, touching isolated parts of the country that were counting on remoteness to keep them safe.

Coronavirus is still spreading uncontrolled and one doctor says it’s time for stricter measures-CNN. The US has entered a “new phase” of the coronavirus pandemic, a top expert says, with cases rising in both urban and rural areas. More than 4.6 million Americans have been infected and at least 154,859 have died according to Johns Hopkins University data.

States

Coronavirus update: Counties where COVID-19 is growing fastest across the US-USA Today. 24/7 Wall Street compiled and reviewed data to determine the county in each state where the virus is spreading the fastest using data from state and local health departments. They excluded counties with populations of fewer than 5,000 people, as well as those with fewer than 20 reported new cases in the past 14 days.

California

COVID-19 updates: California reports over 509,000 cases statewide as deaths top 9,350-The Desert Sun. California public health officials announced Sunday that the state has now seen 509,162 total confirmed coronavirus cases. This number is up by more than 9,000 from Saturday’s count. There have been 9,356 deaths in California since the start of the pandemic.

Florida

Florida health officials report roughly 7,000 new cases of COVID-19-Click Orlando. As Tropical Storm Isaias comes to Florida’s east coast, the department of health recorded 7,104 new coronavirus cases Sunday. The new numbers send the state’s overall total to 487,132 infections.

Washington

Local government employees across Puget Sound region will keep working remotely until 2021, due to COVID-19-The Seattle Times. Many local government employees around the Puget Sound region will continue working from home until 2021. Leaders from several local counties and cities in the region announced this join decision last week.
