National

U.S. reports record 67,400 single-day spike of new coronavirus cases-CNBC. The U.S. has reported an average of about 62,210 new cases per day over the past seven days, more than triple the average just a month ago. With new cases surging, especially in hot-spot states across the South and West, the country’s testing infrastructure is struggling to keep up.

Almost half of all states are spiking at a faster rate than in the spring, study finds-USA Today. As parts of the U.S. continue to suffer through surges of new confirmed COVID-19 cases, a USA Today study found Tuesday that almost half of all states are spiking at a faster rate than they had been in the spring.

States

22 states and two territories have set a daily coronavirus record since July 1-NBC News. The coronavirus is spreading across the United States faster than at any point in the pandemic, and the number of new cases has accelerated in July. The U.S. coronavirus count, which stands at 3,407,556 as of Tuesday afternoon, has increased by almost a quarter since June 30.

California

California orders shutdown of bars and indoor dining as coronavirus cases surge-CBS News. Gov. Gavin Newsom ordered the closure of indoor businesses across the state as coronavirus cases continue to surge. Newsom’s announcement comes as California reported 8,358 new cases of COVID-19 according to data from the state’s health department.

Florida

Miami Is Becoming The ‘Epicenter Of The Pandemic,’ Expert Warns-National Public Radio. Florida posted its highest number of deaths yet from the coronavirus Tuesday. The state’s Department of Health reported 132 deaths and 9,194 new positive cases. It followed two days when Florida registered its highest number of new COVID-19 cases.

Texas

How Texas’ coronavirus outbreak spiraled out of control in a matter of weeks-Business Insider. Texas’ coronavirus outbreak has ballooned dramatically since June 1. On average, 9,100 new daily cases were reported over the past week. Experts say Gov. Greg Abbott started reopening the state prematurely, which backfired, triggering a public-health crisis.

Industry

Could construction could lead Arizona’s post-COVID-19 comeback?-AZ Big Media. Six general contractors and subcontractors in Arizona were asked how they managed their way through the early stages of the pandemic. They also discuss how the Arizona Builders Alliance helped guide the industry and how the industry could lead Arizona through an unprecedented economic slowdown.

Nonresidential Construction Has Recovered 56% of Jobs Lost Since March-EC&M. The construction industry has added 158,000 jobs on net in June, according to an analysis of U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. During the last two months, the industry has added 591,000 jobs, recovering 56% of the industry-wide jobs lost since the start of the pandemic.
