National

U.S. sets another daily record for coronavirus infections-Washington Post. With coronavirus infections soaring across the United States, hospitals in hotspot states are becoming overwhelmed. A record 62,751 new infections were reported across the United States on Wednesday, including 9,979 in Texas and 11,694 in California.

U.S. Hits 3 Million Confirmed Coronavirus Cases-Wall Street Journal. The U.S. surpassed three million confirmed COVID-19 cases less than a month after crossing the two million mark. This occurs as the virus spreads rapidly, with climbing case counts in California, Texas and Florida driving a new single-day record of infections.

States

California

California is preparing for another surge in COVID-19 hospitalizations, Newsom says-ABC 30 News. Gov. Newsom said California is preparing for a surge in hospitalizations and how it will handle the growing demand for hospital beds by COVID-19 patients. California reported a record number of coronavirus on Wednesday.

Florida

Florida emerges as world’s new epicenter for COVID-19-The Hill. The state of Florida has emerged as a global epicenter of the latest coronavirus surge. This raises questions about the safety of major events that relocated to the state. On Wednesday, Florida reported nearly 10,000 new cases. There are nearly 220,500 positive cases statewide, and the test positivity rate has been above 14 percent for more than a week.

Louisiana

Louisiana governor says progress against coronavirus has been wiped out in past three weeks-CNN. The gains the people of Louisiana made against COVID-19 in June have been wiped out over the past three weeks, Gov. John Bel Edwards said. “We have a statewide pandemic. It’s no longer one or two regions,” Edwards told reporters in Baton Rouge. Edwards’ announcement comes as the United States passed 3 million coronavirus cases.

Texas

Texas sets new COVID-19 records Wednesday in key metrics-The Dallas Morning News. Two key metrics Gov. Abbott has used to judge the coronavirus epidemic in Texas hit record highs Wednesday. More than 9,600 people are in the hospital. And over the past week, 15% of reported coronavirus tests have come back positive – the highest rate since the epidemic began.

Industry

Nonresidential construction has recovered 56% of jobs lost since March employment report-Building Design+Construction. The construction industry added 158,000 jobs on net in June, a recent analysis of data. During the last two months, the industry has added 591,000 jobs, recovering 56% of the industrywide jobs lost since the start of the pandemic.

Real Estate Survey Predicts Office Market Will Remain in Decline-Engineering News-Record. Due to COVID-19, the only bright spot in a national real estate market in terrible shape is an uptick in demand for industrial warehouse space due to increased online shopping deliveries during lockdowns, according to a recent survey. Cold storage and last-mile warehousing are particularly strong.
