National

U.S. 7-day average of coronavirus cases surges 30% from week ago-CNBC. As of Monday, the nation’s seven-day average of daily new Covid-19 cases increased more than 30% compared with a week ago. Texas, Arizona and California are among the number of states that have seen a dramatic increase in cases over the past few weeks.

Dow futures fall as resurgence of coronavirus cases and trade tensions take focus-MarketWatch. U.S. stock-index futures retreated on Wednesday, after coming off a second straight record close for the Nasdaq Composite, as investors worried about the rising coronavirus cases in many states and trade tensions rising between America and Europe.

States

Several US states are reporting thousands of new coronavirus cases each day-CNN. Officials are urging residents to stay home, wear face masks and keep their distance after alarming coronavirus trends have emerged across several US states. They’re among 26 states — a number also on the rise — that are seeing new cases increase compared to the previous week.

California

California sees largest one-day increase in COVID-19 cases-KCRA News. The state of California saw the highest jump in new COVID-19 cases in a day on Monday since the state starting tracking case numbers in mid-March. The Department of Public Health said 5,019 new lab-confirmed coronavirus cases were reported – almost a 1,000-case increase from Sunday.

Texas

COVID-19 updates: Texas hospitalizations hit new peak 12th day in a row with nearly 4,100 patients reported-ABC 8 News. Another new high of people hospitalized came in Texas on Tuesday afternoon. More than 4,000 people were hospitalized with COVID-19 across the state on the 12th straight day of climbing hospitalization rates across the state. This is also the first time there has been more than 4,000 COVID-19 patients.

Washington

Gov. Inslee orders masks to be worn in public to help stem spread of coronavirus-The Seattle Times. Gov. Jay Inslee announced a statewide mandate requiring facial coverings in public to slow the spread of the new coronavirus. The new orders come after King County put in place its own requirements to wear facial coverings.

Industry

Commercial Construction Index, confidence in future revenue plummet-Construction Dive. The Commercial Construction Index plummeted from 74 to 56 from the first to second quarter of 2020. Confidence scores for new business and revenue expectations dropped by 26 points each, to 50 and 44, respectively, but the backlog score only dropped 3 points.
