June 25th

National

U.S. hits highest single day of new coronavirus cases with more than 45,500, breaking April record-NBC News. The U.S. saw a record number of new coronavirus cases in a single day, with 45,557 diagnoses reported Wednesday. Yesterday’s cases topped the previous highest daily count, from April 26, by more than 9,000 cases.

The 3 most populous states are breaking coronavirus records, leading to fears of ‘apocalyptic’ surges-CNN. The three most populous states set records for new coronavirus cases daily and there are fears of “apocalyptic” surges in major Texas cities if the trend continues. Florida and Texas announced Wednesday that they’d recorded more than 5,000 new Covid-19 cases the prior day, a new daily record. California reported more than 7,000 cases, obliterating a record hit a day earlier.

States

California

California reports more than 7,000 coronavirus cases, biggest daily jump so far-CNBC. The state of California reported a 69% increase in COVID-19 cases in two days, bringing the state’s total to 190,222 cases. Hospitalizations from Covid-19 have increased 29% over the last 14 days, totaling 4,095 as of Tuesday.

Florida

With more than 5,500 cases in a single day, Florida smashes coronavirus record-Palm Beach Post. In the past week, more than 3,000 cases have been logged every day but one, when the total reached 2,926. Wednesday’s total shattered the previous record that was set on Saturday when 4,049 new cases were reported.

Massachusetts

Boston Implements Full Construction Reopening Plan-Engineering News-Record. Boston has completed the final phase of reopening construction in the city. After initially limiting construction to essential projects like new hospital buildings and housing, Boston has lifted its remaining restrictions, giving a green light to more than 3,000 different projects to move forward in total.

New York

Coronavirus: New York imposes quarantine on eight US states-BBC. New York, New Jersey and Connecticut have asked people traveling from states where Covid-19 cases are rising to go into self-isolation for 14 days. People coming from those states – including returning New York, New Jersey and Connecticut residents – will be asked to quarantine upon arrival.

Social distancing strategies keep contractors productive-Construction Dive. Many construction companies have a challenging job ahead as they enter the post-COVID-19 environment — to ensure their workers abide by social distancing guidelines and remain productive. Despite their best efforts, contractors should realize it’s likely they won’t be able to keep workers at a safe distance from each other at all times.

Short and Medium/Long-Term Outlook for Construction in the United States-International Banker. The construction industry of the United States began 2020 with solid growth and high hopes. That changed quickly as the COVID-19 pandemic dug ever deeper into the US economy, and now the industry is facing a slow and uneven recovery.
