Sacramento Chapter Luncheon Program – Design-Build Delivery in Small to Medium Sized Healthcare Projects

In the complex world of Healthcare design and construction, delivering a project utilizing Design-Build can have a host of advantages, but the reality is there are also challenges. Come hear from Healthcare construction industry leaders on when to use (or avoid) Design-Build delivery for small to medium sized healthcare projects, including renovations and retrofits of existing facilities. Our speakers will share their successes and lessons learned from delivering Healthcare projects using Design-Build, and answer your questions as part of this interactive program.

SPEAKERS

Dr. Brett Mitchell, Manager (Interim), Facilities Planning, University of California, Davis Health
Dr. Brett Mitchell is a Manager for capital improvement projects at the UC, Davis Health. Brett is the former Director of Facilities for the San Juan Unified School District where he managed a $2.4B capital improvement effort with current bond authorization of $1.2B. Brett has an undergraduate degree in Construction Management. After several successful years in the construction industry, he left to teach math and physics. Brett then was a High School Principal, a Director in San Juan and now a Manager at UCDH. Brett’s post Graduate studies include a Master’s Degree in Education Administration and a Doctorate in Organizational Leadership. This unusual combination of experience gives Brett a unique ability to manage university and school district capital improvement interests from both an educator and builder mindset.

Kenneth Roberts, Project Manager, Facility & Property Services, Sutter Health
Mr. Roberts primary focus is on micro to medium size projects ($30K to $5M) for Sutter Medical Center at Sacramento and surrounding Sutter affiliates. He has leveraged design-build delivery
on several micro and small projects with great success. Kenneth is a Stanford Certified Project Manager with a focus on Innovation and Design Thinking.

Robert O’Hare, Area Manager, Planning, Design & Construction, Dignity Health
Mr. O’Hare is a Licensed Architect focusing exclusively on Healthcare projects for more than 20 years.
He has delivered various and unique healthcare projects for Several Healthcare Providers utilizing delivery methods from Design/Bid/Build to Integrated multi-party agreements. He provides for the coordination of all Capital projects efforts, budgeting, scheduling, administrative and technical to assure the most efficient, cost-effective, on time completion and execution for all projects assigned to him. He spends time cooking with family and friends or hiking/ mountaineering.
