San Diego Chapter and SMPS Joint Luncheon Program – In the Driver’s Seat: Owners and Design-Build Success
October 17, 2018 @ 11:30 am - 1:00 pm PDT
Successful Design-Build delivery starts with the Owner…an Owner is the single biggest influence on the success of any project. Simply selecting a Design-Build delivery method is not a guarantee of a successful outcome. The success of any project starts with a collaborative team environment that is fostered by the Owner. Join us for a discussion on how local Owners instill a culture that encourages teamwork, and how that sets up Design-Build projects for success.
Wendy Cohen of Kitchell CEM will moderate a panel discussion between multiple Owners and markets. Together they will discuss why Design-Build is a solution for their program, and the impact of early planning and their role in project success. The discussion will also cover:
- What motivates an Owner to utilize Design-Build instead of other delivery methods;
- What steps they take before the selection process to foster a collaborative team environment;
- How they see their role in developing a collaborative team environment, and how they balance this with the Design-Builder;
- Lastly, how they define success throughout the project.
We are proud to announce our confirmed speakers:
Steve Schmidt, the Deputy Director for Capital Programs and newly minted face of Design-Build for the County of San Diego
Tom Macias, Director of Facilities for the MiraCosta Community College District, leading the charge for a $455M bond program passed by voters in 2016
Eric Smith, Associate Vice Chancellor of Capital Programs at UCSD
