At the recent Federal Project Delivery Symposium hosted by the Design-Build Institute of America and the Society of American Military Engineers, Michael Gelber, deputy commissioner of GSA’s Public Buildings Service, discussed the ways the GSA is handling “the reality of a more austere overall budget environment.” Recognizing that design-build can deliver projects 33 percent faster with 12 percent less schedule growth, the GSA is looking at the delivery method as well as other innovative techniques from the private sector in order to save costs in project delivery, long-term building performance and energy use.
