Challenge Design-Build Project Delivery Addressed
The design-build team, facing the challenge of replacing five bridges, many in remote mountainous areas, used their knowledge and experience to innovate and complete the project efficiently and cost effectively. For the four most remote structures, they used a composite precast/prefabricated design reducing the need to bring raw materials on-site, over narrow rural roads and possibly damage the environment.
Summary
The R N R Construction and Dokken Engineering team replaced five County-owned bridges which were identified as structurally deficient or functionally obsolete. The design-build team selected a composite precast/prefabricated design for four of the most remote structures, thereby reducing the need to bring raw materials on-site. The replacement bridges have been designed to current seismic and structural design standards. Minor approach work enhanced curvature and sight distance lines. All work was completed in 12 months.
