Challenge Design-Build Project Delivery Addressed
SLAC (originally named Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, now SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory) chose to use the design-build delivery method for several reasons, including a desire to deliver the project on an accelerated schedule and the need for collaboration within the chosen team. SLAC needed partners who could deliver the vision of the bridging documents on schedule and budget.
Summary
This design-build project includes a new four-story, 62,125-square-foot building; a 350-seat auditorium with a green roof; a cafeteria with two patio areas; and several collaboration spaces throughout the building. The first phase of the project involved the demolition of existing facilities including the original Panofsky Auditorium, visitor’s center and cafeteria.
