Challenge Design-Build Project Delivery Addressed
This project was a task order under a DHS national design-build multiple award construction contract (MACC). As an agency within the DHS, the U.S. Coast Guard fully embraces the design-build approach, which provided the contractual flexibility needed to effectively deliver the extensive technical and operational requirements of this project.
Summary
The USCG Base Ketchikan Fast Response Cutter (FRC) Homeport Upgrades project involved the design and construction of a 15,000-square-foot shop and hazardous materials (MAT/HAZMAT) building, a 400 foot floating dock for the USCG’s new fast response cutters, construction of a seawall to accommodate 20-foot tide line fluctuations, the relocation of an existing dock, a strengthened crane operations area, the demolition of an existing building, and the relocation of a 180-foot breakwater and debris deflector.
