Baabak Ashuri is Associate Professor at Brook Byers Institute for Sustainable Systems (BBISS) and Fellow in the School of Building Construction and the School of Civil & Environmental Engineering at Georgia Tech where he directs Construction Research Center (CRC). Dr. Ashuri’s educational, research, and consulting activities focus on Project Analytics, Construction Engineering & Project Management, Investment Valuation, Economic Decision Analysis, and Innovative Project Delivery Systems (Design-Build (DB), Design-Build-Finance (DBF), Public-Private Partnership (P3), Construction Manager/General Contractor (CMGC) and Integrated Project Delivery (IPD)). His work has implications for improving long-range planning and integrated decision-making process for delivery of resilient and sustainable infrastructure systems.

Dr. Ashuri’s most significant research and scholarly accomplishments are 1 book, 1 book chapter, 21 journal articles, 17 research reports, 60 refereed conference proceedings, and 25 invited research presentations. He has been principal investigator of 19 external research projects, total worth of $2.1 million, and co-principal investigator of 6 research projects, total worth of $3.3 million. These project were sponsored by several public and private organizations, such as the National Science Foundation (NSF), the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), the Construction Industry Institute (CII), the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), the Southeast Transportation Consortium (STC), the Louisiana Transportation Research Center (LTRC), the Digital Building Lab (DBL), American Utility Management, Inc. (AUM), Turner Construction, Perkins + Will, and the Georgia Intern Fellowships for Teachers (GIFT).

Dr. Ashuri is the recipient of several awards for his accomplishments. He was selected as one of the 2016 Rising Stars in Civil Engineering by the Civil + Structural Engineer magazine. Dr. Ashuri received the 2015 Design-Build Institute of America’s (DBIA’s) Distinguished Leadership Award in the Faculty category. He was selected to the Engineering News-Record (ENR) Southeast’s “Top 20 Under 40” list for 2014. His research project “Recommended Guide for Next Generation of Transportation Design Build Procurement and Contracting in the State of Georgia” received 2013 High Value Research “Sweet Sixteen” Award from the Value of Research Task Force of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO). “A Real Options Model to Evaluate Toll Highway Project under Two-Phase Development Plan” published in the Built Environment Project and Asset Management Journal was the 2012 Highly Commended Award Winner at the Emerald Literati Network Awards for Excellence. “An Investment Analysis Framework for Energy Retrofit in Existing Buildings” received the Best Paper Award from the 47th Annual International Conference of the Associated Schools of Construction (ASC).

Dr. Ashuri has gained national and international recognitions as evidenced by his leadership roles as Assistant Specialty Editor of Quantitative Methods for the ASCE Journal of Construction Engineering & Management, Technical Committee Co-Chair of the 2014 Construction Research Congress (CRC2014), and Member of the 2012 ASCE Industry Leaders Council (ILC) for developing an Infrastructure Business and Financial Model Toolkit. He is the Vice Chair of the ASCE Construction Research Congress (CRC) and the ASCE Transportation & Development Institute (T&DI) Committee on Sustainability and Environment.

Dr. Ashuri holds a Ph.D. in Industrial & Systems Engineering, an M.S. in Operations Research, and an M.S. in Building Construction & Facility Management, all from Georgia Tech, and a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Sharif University of Technology.
