David Burton recently joined Layton Construction as vice president of business development for Detention Services. David oversaw business development for detention and corrections projects for Layton to grow this market across the country building upon the resources within the STO Building Group family of companies.

David has more than 30 years of progressive leadership experience directing commercial construction operations management—completing projects for private and public clients using design-build, CMAR, and other delivery methods. He brings the success directing the construction of more than 24,000 correctional beds in 19 facilities and 10 federal courthouse/office complexes from Hawaii to New York to the Caribbean.

Before joining Layton, David was vice president of Justice for Moss & Associates in Dallas, Texas. While there, he directed business development and managed commercial operations within the justice sector, overseeing multiple projects in Texas, Florida, California, and New York. David also spent time during his career in leadership roles with dck worldwide, LLC, W.G. Yates and Sons Construction, and Dick Corporation.

David has a bachelor’s degree in construction engineering technology from Texas Tech University and is a certified design-build professional. He is a member of the Certification Board and National Board of Directors with DBIA and a past chairman of the Design-Build Certification Board (DBCB).
