Shannon Sweitzer, P.E., DBIA

Vice President and Director of Transportation, S&ME

Mr. Shannon Sweitzer is the Director of Transportation for S&ME and a senior engineer. He offers an extensive background in major transportation projects where he has been active in all aspects of the project delivery process from planning to construction oversight. His focus at S&ME is to consolidate the firm’s extensive engineering capabilities and technical services and align those services in the pursuit of large scale transportation projects. He is a resourceful civil engineer with strong management and leadership skills.

Shannon was employed at the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) for 20 years, holding the positions of Resident Engineer, State Pavement Construction Engineer, and State Roadway Construction Engineer. During his last 5 years with NCDOT, Shannon was Director of Construction for the North Carolina Turnpike Authority where he was responsible for delivering the Turnpike’s large-scale Design-Build projects. Shannon is well versed in transportation project delivery from project conception through operations.

Shannon received a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the North Carolina State University and is a licensed professional engineer in North Carolina and Florida. He is an active member of professional organizations and has served in several leadership positions within the Transportation Research Board (TRB) and Design Build Institute of America (DBIA).

Shannon is married with three teenage children. He enjoys the outdoors, his many home projects, hockey and spending time with his active family.
