The Dollar Loan Center is a multi-purpose arena that accommodates 6,000 spectators for hockey events. The Henderson Silver Knights is a minor league hockey team, the co-owners and primary tenant for the arena. However, it is a multi-use facility that hosts many other events, including basketball, concerts, graduations, banquets and even dirt for motocross events. The arena’s three levels house the full range of public and team-related needs, including a large restaurant, ticketing, team offices, player facilities, restrooms, food service, large storage and staging areas. The arena is designed around the central tenet of “no obstructed views.” It has accommodations for wheelchair patrons scattered around the bowl at all levels to allow for a premium experience for all.
Design-Build Innovation Creates Arena Versatility
The Dollar Loan Center is an innovative event space with limitless options. The design of this building makes it versatile for any event and therefore makes the building timeless. As a result, the client has a one-of-a-kind building that can change with its community. The biggest challenges for the team were to provide a multi-purpose arena that hosts a variety of event types in a $70 million budget and deliver it in an aggressive 20-month Design-Build schedule. In addition to the cost and schedule challenges, the Dollar Loan Center had two separate Owners who inherently had different ideas about the overall project. The Design-Build team overcame this with thorough communication with both Owners and by providing multiple solutions to all problems.
