DBIA has just released an updated resource for Owners navigating design-build project delivery. The Role of the Owner Advisor in Design-Build is tailored to help Owners who have already chosen to use design-build select the right Owner Advisor to lead them through the process. Paired with the new companion Owner Readiness Assessment, these tools are designed to help Owners understand their level of preparedness for design-build or determine where added training, education and support may be needed.
The updated primer, created by a subcommittee of DBIA’s Owner Advisor Committee led by Molly Jones, AIA, LEED AP, GGP, GPCP, DBIA, of Jones Design Studio, reflects the latest best practices in design-build. The team of experts, including Owners, Owner Advisors and industry professionals, worked diligently to ensure the primer addresses the evolving complexities of modern design-build projects.
The guide covers critical areas such as:
- Defining the qualifications of an Owner Advisor
- Procuring the right Owner Advisor
- Supporting successful design-build projects through collaboration
Jones emphasizes the Owner Advisor’s crucial role, “The expanded use of design-build has shone a light on the important role of an Owner Advisor in leveraging the unique aspects of the project delivery method. The facilitative leadership of the Owner Advisor supplements the knowledge of the Owner and seeks to implement the best practices, leading to successful projects.”
Jones’s words highlight the value of an Owner Advisor in today’s increasingly complex projects.
