Celebrating DBIA Designated Design-Build Professionals: February 26, 2021

Every year, hundreds of people undertake the training and education necessary to become a Designated Design-Build Professional.®

 As the industry grows, so does the need for qualified professionals who practice Design-Build Done Right®. The Design-Build Institute of America would like to formally congratulate the following professionals on achieving their DBIA certification. Featured below are just a few of the many industry professionals that are becoming DBIA certified. Congratulations to all!

Fenya Boyanides, LEED AP BD+C, Assoc. DBIA

Fenya Boyanides has over ten years of experience in the Engineering field. She holds a Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Environmental Engineering as well as a master’s degree in Business Administration. Fenya has gained experience in manufacturing facilities and on construction job sites in the USA and Europe, and she has a diverse knowledge of quality management, project management, procurement, and permitting. Fenya is currently based in New York, building housing projects, transit stations, and sustainable schools with Technico Construction Services.

Sri Dinakaran PE, DGE, DBIA

Sri Dinakaran has over 26 years of engineering-related experience in diverse aspects of civil and geotechnical projects. During his career, he was involved in developing, conducting, and performing geotechnical investigations and design studies in the North Texas area. Some of his major design-build projects include Horseshoe, The Southern Gateway, and I635E LBJ. He has also completed a vast array of horizontal and vertical projects in many sectors, such as passenger rail (TEXRail), water and wastewater treatment plant foundation studies, railroad structures, commercial buildings, TxDOT roads and highways, and more. In addition to being involved in business development, client management, and proposal preparation/presentation to civil and architectural firms, Sri also mentors young staff engineers.

Viktoria Huber, LEED AP, DBIA

Viktoria Huber is a preconstruction manager at McCarthy Building Companies with over 15 years of construction experience and expertise in cost estimating and design management. Originally from Belarus, she moved to Atlanta, GA where she graduated with high honors from Georgia Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science degree in Building Construction. After graduation in 2006, Viktoria found her passion working in preconstruction and leading successful integrated design and construction teams to meet and often exceed project goals.

Jason Lim, Assoc. DBIA

With over 15 years of experience in the construction industry, Jason has a proven track record of successful project management due in part to his methodical, personable, and passionate mindset.  His affinity for training and helping others empower themselves is thoroughly demonstrated in his love of collaboration and learning new ways to build. Jason is eager to utilize his DBIA certification to promote design-build methodology and its best practices.

Grace Lin, AIA, CDT, DBIA

Grace is an adjunct professor at Columbia University, School of Professional Studies, under the Master of Science in Construction Administration program. She worked for global architectural firms then transitioned into the Owner side in 2010. Her previous roles from “both sides of the fence” have cultivated her talents for executing both big picture ideas and details. As a senior project manager at CBRE, she performs as the Owners’ representative delivering professional services throughout the project lifecycle. Her effective management approach is greatly enhanced by her knowledge of design, construction, and sustainability management. Grace serves on the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Project Delivery Knowledge Community (PDKC) Advisory/Leadership Group focusing on developing programs and sharing knowledge advancing project delivery.

Joseph Lisiewski II, RA, LEEP AP, DBIA

During his thirty-four years as a registered architect, Joseph Lisiewski II’s practice experience has touched on all facets of the building industry including planning, design, scheduling, construction, project/construction management, mediation, and litigation. His work as an architect, contractor, and construction/project manager has granted him hands-on experience that has provided insight into the priorities of each discipline, and the effect on the outcome of the project.

Joseph Opyd, DBIA

Joseph Opyd is a seasoned, results-driven professional with a distinguished career planning and leading private and government construction/renovation projects in competitive environments. He spearheads the multimillion-dollar construction lifecycle development process from initial bid, project design, and scope of services through master scheduling, budget control, and completion. Through his experience, Joseph has proven his talent in assuming, revitalizing, and completing challenging projects ahead of time and within budget.  He is a recognized builder and manager of cross-functional relationships with owners, regulatory officials, subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers. He thrives in environments that utilize his ability to rapidly evaluate pressing situations and implement focused solutions that guarantee success.

Jerome Ruddins, CCM, CISEC, QSP, Assoc. DBIA®

Jerome Ruddins is responsible for managing construction managers and resident engineers on projects of various levels of complexity and intensity. As a Construction Management professional with 36 years of experience, he has been responsible for the construction administration of over $2 billion of public works construction projects. His vast experience includes design-build, multiple prime, and design-bid-build project delivery. Jerome has served on VE panels, trained agency professionals on constructability reviews, taught inspection courses, provided contractor prequalification services and claims consulting. He has completed major projects involving highways and bridges, buildings, water treatment plants, reservoirs, pump stations, well automation, traffic signals, seismic retrofits, airports, and sports fields.

Michael Strong, Assoc. DBIA®

As the Project Executive, Michael Strong is the quintessential project Team Leader. He collaborates and works tirelessly as a Client Advocate, putting people first and making changes to the process to better serve stakeholders. There are no sacred cows as he strives to achieve the impossible, the “never before considered”, to beat the budget and meet the schedule. Michael’s experience doing everything from pouring concrete and laying brick to pulling electrical and hanging drywall underscores that he truly understands how to build a building–not just how a building is built. In short, he understands the limitations, pressures, and challenges of working in the field, and he knows that successful communication in the field, as in the office, is one of the primary reasons projects succeed.
