Celebrating DBIA Designated Design-Build Professionals: June 24, 2021

Every year, hundreds of people undertake the training and education necessary to earn their design-build certification and become Designated Design-Build Professionals.®

 As the industry grows, so does the need for qualified professionals who practice Design-Build Done Right®. The Design-Build Institute of America would like to formally congratulate the following professionals on achieving their DBIA certification. Featured below are just a few of the many industry professionals that are becoming DBIA certified. Congratulations to all!

Arthur Alzamora, Jr. , PE, LEED AP, F. ASCE, Assoc. DBIA®

Arthur has over 17 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, specializing in excavation support systems and foundation design. He serves on the Board of Directors for ACE Mentor Program and as chair of the ACEC New York Scholarship Committee. As a leader in Langan’s NYC geotechnical practice, Art has experience working on challenging subsurface conditions and foundation design for large-scale projects, including One Vanderbilt, Brooklyn Navy Yard, and the Cornell Tech campus on Roosevelt Island. In 2019, Art won ASCE Met Section’s Thomas C. Kavanagh Service Award and was named an ASCE Fellow. He is a past president of the ASCE Metropolitan Section and has served on the executive committee for the New York Chapter of the ACEC, as well as several other committees within the organization.

Miles Anderson Assoc. DBIA®

Miles graduated from UCSD with a B.S. in Structural Engineering in 2012. In his career at Turner Construction, he has taken on roles in estimating, procurement, and operations. He has experience with large-scale, ground-up commercial projects as well as tenant improvement projects. Based out of San Diego, his notable projects include Park 12 and Manchester Pacific Gateway. Miles is currently a Project Manager on the San Diego International Airport Terminal 1 Replacement design-build project.

Josh Benton, Assoc. DBIA®

Josh is a Project Manager for Brasfield & Gorrie. After ten years in the construction industry, he is honored to receive his certification and become a member of DBIA. He looks forward to continuing his career in this industry and hopes to further his knowledge and use of design-build project delivery methods. As a registered architect in NJ and NY, he brings a unique perspective to his work. His diverse experience from working on all sides of projects through their lifecycle— from designing and building, to owner’s representation— has helped to develop and enhance his management approach. Josh is also a father of two with a beautiful family whom he loves dearly.

Simeon Higbee, DBIA®

Simeon is a preconstruction professional focused on the electrical, SCADA, and special systems scope for healthcare, water treatment, education, and commercial projects.  He has worked his way up through the trades from apprentice to project engineer, to estimator. In his own words, “The design-build delivery method has been amazing for my skillset by allowing me to coordinate earlier in the design process and avoid issues later.”

Brad Jacobson, FAIA, LEED APBD+C, DBIA®

Brad Jacobson is a Principal at EHDD, a San Francisco-based architecture firm that is leading the way to a carbon-neutral built environment. Brad has led design teams for a wide range of climate-conscious projects including two AIA Top Ten Green Buildings:  the Net-Zero Energy and LEED Platinum-certified headquarters for The David and Lucile Packard Foundation (2014) and the Department of Global Ecology for the Carnegie Institution for Science at Stanford (2007). His clients range from public universities to enlightened developers such as the team behind Boulder Commons, a 100,000 sq. ft. net-zero energy spec office development which opened in Fall 2017. He is currently leading the collaborative design-build delivery of a 330,000 SF high-tech office campus targeting LEED Platinum and carbon-neutral performance.

Reginald Jansen PE, Assoc. DBIA®

Reginald Jansen has been working on various water and wastewater projects throughout the suburbs of Chicago for the past six years. His company, Baxter & Woodman, is pushing to increase its knowledge and use of Design-Build projects in the years to come. Reginald looks forward to seeing Design-Build in the Water/Wastewater industry continue to grow in the future.

Ruben King, DBIA®

Ruben King graduated from California State University, Fresno in 1989 with a bachelor’s degree in Construction Management. Throughout his career, he has worked primarily in the water and wastewater industry. Ruben has worked at Garney Construction for the last 15  years, where he has served as Estimator, Project Manager, and Senior Project Manager on alternate delivery projects ranging from $100,000 to $50 Million. These projects have involved several contractual forms, including design-build, CMAR, and CM/GC delivery models.

Elizabeth Schlegel PE, DBIA®

Elizabeth Schlegel is an Associate Civil Engineer at Kjeldsen, Sinnock & Neudeck, Inc. (KSN, Inc.) in West Sacramento, California. She has 15+ years of experience as a project manager and design engineer on numerous public works projects, correctional institutions, and civil site projects. Her recent design-build projects include the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) $350 million Mule Creek Infill Complex and its related Woodard Bottom Recycled Water project, and subsidiary projects of the Silicon Valley Clean Water’s RESCU Program.

Gabriel Seijas AIA, LEED AP, Assoc. DBIA®

Gabriel Seijas is a Senior Project Manager at VRH Construction. His career has focused on airport and other transportation projects in the New York metropolitan area for more than 25 years. After graduating with a B.S. in Architecture from the New Jersey Institute of Technology, Gabe worked as an architect for several design firms including Richard Dattner Architects and Lockwood Greene. Later, he worked for Turner Construction as a Project Superintendent/Purchasing Agent for their Aviation market segment group. Prior to joining VRH in 2019, he worked as Senior Director–Technical Services for AvAirPros.
