About the DBIA Certification Examination
The purpose of the certification exam is to measure a candidate’s mastery of design-build best practices and its application. Successful completion of the exam is one of the final requirements of the Design-Build Certification program.
This exam is approximately 2 hours long and is delivered through Prometric nationwide provide both in-person exams and remote options to take the exam using a secure process that provides proctored testing. The passing score is 72% or above.
It consists of 100-questions, and covers the following topics:
- Guiding Principles (8%)
- Foundations of Design-Build Done Right (8%)
- Procuring Design-Build Services (30%)
- Contracting for Design-Build Services (24%)
- Executing Design-Build Projects (30%)
In addition to the course materials from the Certification Workshop, we also recommended reading the new 2023 Universal Best Practices which further reinforces the best practices and implementing techniques discussed in class and reading through the following DBIA documents in preparation for your exam.
- DBIA Primer – Project Delivery (fully understand the unique differences between each delivery system)
- DBIA Position Statement – Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) (fully understand the core principles)
- DBIA Position Statement – Virtual Design & Construction (fully understand the position)
- Progressive Design-Build Deeper Dive (fully understand the PDB procurement process and unique contract issues)
