DBIA Committees play an important role in helping our association and the industry tackle challenges and opportunities. Each committee is charged with goals to help fulfill DBIA’s strategic direction. DBIA members in good standing may apply for committee involvement based on their areas of expertise. Committee assignments are for a 3-year period. Nominations for the 2025–2027 period will open late fall of 2024.
Board Development Committee
The members of the Board Development Committee shall be appointed by the Executive Committee, and the appointments shall be approved by the Board of Directors. The Board Development Committee shall identify qualified individuals for membership on the Board of Directors and recommend to the Nominating Committee the director nominees for consideration at the next Annual Meeting of the membership.
Contracts Committee
Monitor developments in the design-build contracting arena and work to ensure DBIA offers a complete and up-to-date family of contract documents and forms in support of and consistent with Best Practices.
Core Curriculum/Exam Update Committee
With the updated Design-Build Done Right Best Practices® as a guide, the Core Curriculum/Exam Update Committee, in coordination with the Design-Build Certification Board (DBCB), will assess the body of knowledge required of DBIA certified professionals, make recommendations for changes to the core curriculum, and develop and manage a timeline for updates and rollout of the new curriculum and exam.
Design-Build Conference & Expo Planning Committee
This committee will plan and deliver a well‐balanced annual conference program, including an agenda of general and concurrent educational sessions and networking events.
Design Professionals’ Advisory and Engagement Committee
This committee will identify hurdles to successful designer engagement in design-build and develop strategies to make design-build more appealing to the design community.
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Committee
This committee will increase awareness of diversity, equity, and inclusion issues by engaging in “less talk” and “more action” to find solutions to the core issue of racial bias in the AEC industry.
Elective Courses/Gap Assessment Committee
This committee will review all of DBIA’s non-core, one-day courses to determine their relevance and accuracy in relation to the updated Design-Build Done Right® best practices. The committee will assess whether DBIA has sufficient elective courses at all levels of knowledge (from novice to experienced), with curriculum that provides value to all players on the team, including Owners. Based on this assessment, courses will be updated, revised and/or expanded. The committee will also recommend and lead the development of new courses needed to fill identified gaps in education, collaborating with other committees, as necessary, throughout the process.
Federal Markets Committee
This committee will continually assesses project delivery practices, challenges and opportunities in the Federal sector to help ensure success in project delivery for Federal Owners and industry practitioners, with a focus on expanding the use and understanding of Design-Build Done Right®.
Legislative Committee
This committee will monitor significant developments in the design-build arena, including how statutes and case law are evolving and impacting the successful execution of design-build project delivery.
Membership Advisory Committee
This committee will guide expansion and growth of DBIA membership and engagement through strategic outreach and increased member value.
Owner Advisor Committee
This committee will identify best practices and develop industry standards for the required skillset of an effective Owner Advisor and utilize this information to develop guidelines, training and other strategies for industry-wide dissemination and use by Owners and Owner Advisors in design-build.
PDB Resources Committee
The PDB Resources Committee will lead the development of tools, resources, and education to define the key characteristics and “how to” of Progressive Design-Build. The PDB Resources Committee will also identify, recommend and lead development of additional deeper dive education (i.e., webinars, position papers, half- or full-day courses, conference sessions, etc.) Finally, the PDB Resources Committee will serve as a vetting arm for all PDB resources recommended and/or developed by other committees.
Professional Development Advisory Group (PDAG)
The PDAG is a Board-appointed committee that will guide the evolution of Design-Build Done Right® through oversight of enhancements and additions to DBIA’s professional development program based on the flexibility of design-build, the impact of emerging trends, and changing roles/responsibilities of design-build team members. The PDAG serves both an advisory and oversight role to the Progressive Design-Build (PDB) Resources Committee, the Core Curriculum / Exam Content Committee and the Elective Courses / Gap Assessment Committee. Among the PDAG’s primary role is providing guidance and direction on core tenets of Design-Build Done Right®, ensuring alignment with Board-approved policies and positions, around which the committees will build tools, resources and content.
Student and Young Professional Engagement Committee
This committee will play a proactive role in preparing the next generation of design-build leaders by enhancing the DBIA member value proposition for architectural, engineering, construction management, and trade school students and young professionals.
Transportation/Aviation Markets Committee
This committee will continually assess project delivery practices, challenges and opportunities in the Transportation and Aviation sectors to help ensure success in project delivery, with a focus on expanding the use and understanding of Design-Build Done Right®.
Transportation/Aviation Conference Planning Committee
This committee will plan and deliver a well‐balanced conference program specific to Owners and practitioners in the Transportation/Aviation space, including an agenda of general and concurrent educational sessions and networking events.
Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) Committee
This committee will educate the industry and level set the BIM/VDC conversation across all market segments to elevate the understanding of its value while shaping how VDC can thrive in a collaborative “whole team approach” design-build project delivery environment.
Water/Wastewater Markets Committee
This committee will continually assesses project delivery practices, challenges and opportunities in the Water/Wastewater sector to help ensure success in project delivery, with a focus on expanding the use and understanding of Design-Build Done Right®.
Water/Wastewater Conference Planning Committee
This committee will plan and deliver a well‐balanced conference program specific to Owners and practitioners in the Water/Wastewater space, including an agenda of general and concurrent educational sessions and networking events.
