The DBIA College of Fellows program is administered by the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA). This program is governed by the DBIA National Board of Directors (BOD) through its Design-Build Certification Board (DBCB) and recognizes the achievements of our most accomplished Designated Design-Build Professionals ® . Elevation to Fellow status celebrates an individual’s extraordinary career achievements. Individuals elevated to Fellow have proven to promote DBIA best practices principles throughout their career and lifetime achievements and are thus elevated to the DBIA College of Fellows.
Nominations close each year on June 30th. Nominations received after that date may be considered the following year.
Nominees must fulfill the following eligibility criteria:
DBIA Fellows are elevated based on a distinguished career, both practicing and promoting the design-build project delivery methodology. The following represents the evaluation criteria for DBIA Fellows:
Of 105 possible points, 85 points are required for elevation to DBIA Fellow. The application will be independently reviewed by existing DBIA Fellows, cross-checked by other Fellows, and ultimately nominees will be chosen for elevation by a jury of DBIA Fellows.
Four (4) testimonial references are required but, at least one (1) must be from each category listed below. Please provide your references full contact information (see Attachment F). Important to note, it is the nominator’s responsibility to contact each reference and receive the reference’s commitment to timely complete the reference documents. DBIA will not pursue non-responsive references. Nominations without required references will not be considered.
Information provided will be used for communication and collateral should you be awarded the fellowship (name, company and title.)

Include the extent to which the applicant has published, or contributed to papers, articles, or other publications that serve to help advance effective design-build project delivery. All applications will be thoroughly considered by an Application Review Committee which is responsible for the review and approval of all DBIA Fellow applications.
The application will be initially reviewed to ensure that all documents have been received, at which time the application and accompanying documents will be scheduled for review in August of each cycle. Advancement to the Fellow designation requires unanimous assent of all the application review members. All applicants who are approved for advancement to Fellow designation will be notified by late August.
Any applicants who are not approved for advancement to the DBIA Fellows subsequent to review will receive an explanation from the Committee, and the applicant will have the opportunity to submit additional documentation for consideration the following year. Any DBIA Fellows applicant who is not unanimously approved may follow the approved appeals procedures as described in the DBIA Rules of Policy and Procedure.
