This project consisted of a 220,000 square-foot facility for BJC HealthCare, one of the nation’s largest nonprofit healthcare organizations. The five-story, $25 million building, known as BJC @ The Commons (BJC), fulfilled a critical need to consolidate its administrative functions and employees into one space. While Clayco was an expert in the area of design-build, this was the first project of its kind for BJC. To help them understand why design-build was the best solution to meet their needs, the teams met frequently to discuss plans, get feedback from one another and ultimately educate all team members about the design-build process. A different floor was turned over every two weeks so furnishing and final touches could be completed. The project experienced 32 total days of work stoppage due to weather, but thanks to the design-build technique, extraordinary pre-planning and teamwork, weather days did not deter the team from finishing the project on time.
