Design-Build Team Summary

Challenge Design-Build Project Delivery Addressed

The Cincinnati District 3 Police Station design-build project delivery provided multiple benefits, including the typical virtues of an integrated design/construction team, single point responsibility, schedule compression and competitive value. In addition, the City took advantage of the features of design-build that permitted an extended program criteria document and structured opportunities for interaction with City staff, police and neighborhood residents during the competition phase. This allowed the team to produce an informed and competitive proposal and set the stage for design and execution by a truly integrated team of owner, user, contractor, designer and community.

Summary

The 39,000-square-foot District 3 Cincinnati Police Station is the first LEED Platinum and Net Zero Energy Police station in the world. The team employed the collaborative benefits of design-build to integrate the City, the police and the community into the project development. The process maintained schedule and budget while enriching the goals, aspirations and realization of the project.
