Challenge Design-Build Project Delivery Addressed
The biggest challenge of this project involved building to the WELL Building Standard. This is a rigorous standard that requires every aspect of the design and construction of a building to support and enhance the wellbeing of its occupants. The structure of the design-build partnership allowed close coordination and planning efforts between preconstruction, design, and construction teams, and this alignment towards the common goal of building to the WELL Building Standard helped the team successfully deliver a building that passed the certification inspections.
Summary
The HAPO Mill Plain branch is the first credit union facility in the world to pursue WELL Certification. This is a rigorous certification that required a higher level of collaboration earlier on in the project. Momentum brought the Architect, WELL Consultant, MEP engineering firm and structural engineering firm on board during the early requirements documentation phase and the mechanical and electrical subcontractors were brought in to provide design assist at the 50% phase. The result is a facility that fully supports the health and wellbeing of its occupants.
