Challenge Design-Build Project Delivery Addressed

The owner chose design-build delivery for the Maryland Proton Treatment Center so that they would have single source accountability for the design and construction of the facility. Their goal was to minimize change orders and maximize coordination between design, construction and the proton equipment vendor.

Summary

The Maryland Proton Treatment Center (MPTC) is an 111,000-square-foot outpatient cancer treatment center. MPTC provides the world’s most advanced form of cancer treatment, proton therapy, and is only the eleventh such facility in the nation and the second to be delivered via design-build.
