Design-Build Team Summary

Challenge Design-Build Project Delivery Addressed

The initial planning for this project included site work to support a six-story addition and a 350-car parking ramp. The building was later reduced to four stories, but provisions for the future parking deck remain in the current site design as well as the built structure to support the future two stories. Before commending, the design-build team undertook a massive utility bank relocation to remove those services from the footprint of the proposed addition and accommodate future expansion. This “project within a project” could have added four months to the project’s duration, but the team was able to accommodate it within the overall schedule.

This 160,000-square-foot Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) hospital expansion in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania strengthens LVHN’s commitment to families in the community by offering exceptional obstetric care, mother and baby/newborn care services and provide inpatient rehabilitation services to create a more seamless continuum of care. The project includes a mother-baby unit comprising 20 private, comfortable rooms that foster in-room baby care, a Level II NICU with 10 private rooms, inpatient rehabilitation services and a new entrance oriented toward downtown Bethlehem.
