By seamlessly integrating innovative design, efficient construction and community-centric approaches, the project team successfully addressed critical water supply challenges faced by Union County and neighboring communities. The project provided water to over 180,000 people in Union County. Leveraging Progressive Design-Build (PDB), the team fast-tracked the project’s implementation and shaped an efficient, long-term, sustainable water supply project. Notably, value engineering efforts yielded significant cost savings of over $7.5 million, while meticulous architectural design minimized disruption to the lakefront community and surrounding environment. This project exemplifies how collaborative design-build approaches can exceed expectations, ensuring a sustainable water future for generations to come. The pump station facility included the planting of water willow beds to enhance the fish habitat along the lakefront.
Progressive Design-Build and the Team
PDB allowed the team to carefully pick the most skilled contractors and designers, including two team members holding DBIA certifications. The judges noticed the exceptional nature of the Owner Letter submitted in the application, giving detailed and clear explanations of the project. The team incorporated VDC in the process of rendering alternatives for different pump station options. This use allowed the team to identify and schedule critical early work. BIM was also used during the design creating an enhanced level of coordination and quality assurance.
