National

COVID-19 cases among children in U.S. up 90% over four weeks, report says-CBS News. There’s been a dramatic increase in coronavirus cases among children in the U.S. The association noted a 90% increase in pediatric cases over four weeks. During the last two weeks of July alone, more than 97,000 children tested positive for the coronavirus, according to the AAP.

America’s uniquely bad Covid-19 epidemic, explained in 18 maps and charts-Vox. Maps and data show a large disparity between the US and other developed nations in terms of getting life back to normal. Countries around the globe are reopening bit by bit. But that success hasn’t been able to make it’s way to the United States.

States

California

California begins adding backlogged COVID-19 cases to record-KCRA News. The state of California began adding additional coronavirus cases to its public record Tuesday. The state reported 12,500 confirmed cases, up sharply from its previous 14-day average. This comes a week after state officials acknowledged a data problem in late July had caused nearly 300,000 records not to appear in its health system.

Florida

Florida adds record-high coronavirus deaths with 277 Tuesday-Tampa Bay Times. The state of Florida logged a new record for the most coronavirus deaths announced in a day with 277 on Tuesday. Tuesday’s record brought the statewide death toll to 8,685 people. The weekly death average increased to 166 people dead per day.

Georgia

Georgia reports record number of coronavirus-related deaths in Tuesday update-Macon Telegraph. The Georgia Department of Public Health reported the largest single-day increase in reported coronavirus-related deaths since the start of the pandemic at 122 deaths. There have been 222,588 cumulative COVID-19 cases as of Tuesday, up by over 3,500 new cases in 24 hours.

Texas

Texans are seeing how dangerous coronavirus can be as cases soar past 500,000-CNN. As Texas soars past 500,000 Covid-19 cases during the coronavirus pandemic, state officials are redoubling their efforts to get residents to wear masks and practice social distancing. This comes after suggesting that the surge in infections has been driven by people letting their guard down.

Industry

Study finds COVID-19 protocols led to a 7% loss on construction projects-Construction Dive. A new study reported that implementing COVID-19 safety preparations and protocols at jobsites has led to a decline in productivity. The report found that there has been a 17.9% hit to productivity since the outbreak began, resulting in a 7% financial loss, instead of profits, for the average project.

Reimagining multifamily spaces in the COVID era-Building Design+ConstructionMultifamily developments pose unique challenges and opportunities through the habits and lifestyle changes that have been adopted as pandemic strategies. Designers must consider how people use private residential spaces as well as public shared spaces. In both settings, design and operational strategies can support healthier, more comfortable lifestyles as needs evolve.
