National

Nearly 1 out of every 100 Americans has tested positive for COVID-19-CNN. The US has recorded more than 3.3 million coronavirus cases since the pandemic began, according to Johns Hopkins University, and at least 135,205 Americans have died. Across the world, 12.9 million people have tested positive for the virus.

From cities to rural towns, stay informed on where COVID-19 is spreading to understand how it could affect families, commerce, and travel.

States

Live updates: Coronavirus deaths on the rise in almost every region of the U.S.-Washington Post. Although testing has remained flat, 20 states and Puerto Rico reported a record-high average of new infections over the past week. Five states — Arizona, California, Florida, Mississippi and Texas — also broke records for average daily fatalities in that period.

California

Expert explains rise of COVID-19 cases in California-KCRA News. As of Saturday, 29 counties in California have been added to the state’s coronavirus watchlist. Three different factors trigger a county being placed on the state’s COVID-19 watch list: elevated disease transmission, increasing hospitalization and limited hospital capacity.

Florida

Florida Breaks U.S. Coronavirus Record for Most New Cases in a Day-New York Times. The state recorded 15,300 new coronavirus cases on Sunday. This high easily passed the previous one-day high of 12,274 set at the height of the outbreak in New York in April.

Texas

Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner in favor of a ‘step back,’ two-week shutdown to reduce COVID-19 spread-Houston Chronicle. Houston leaders are calling for another two-week shutdown as dozens of Army personnel are set to arrive Monday to help fight a virus that continues to set record hospitalizations and deaths in the Texas Medical Center.
