Design-Build Conference & Expo Engages Partner Organizations and Subject Matter Experts Across Industry

The DBIA Design-Build Conference & Expo brings together several corners of the industry to discuss design-build from a multitude of perspectives. DBIA welcomes partner organizations, subject matter experts and even crossover events to ensure attendees come away with a more robust understanding of design-build –– its future, its challenges and opportunities, its impact on the greater industry and more.

Plan to join DBIA Nov. 1–3 at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center, but don’t limit your visit to just those three days. In addition to bringing together experts during the flagship Conference & Expo events, National Harbor will be brimming with construction expertise all week. On Oct. 31, DBIA presents the Design-Build VDC Leadership Exchange and the Construction Management Association of America presents its CMAA2023 annual conference earlier in the week.

Whether you’ve already registered for the DBIA Conference & Expo or you still need convincing, take a look at these highlights to get ready for the industry takeover of National Harbor.

Design-Build Presents Challenges and Opportunities for the Whole Industry

On Thursday, Nov. 2, several leading AEC organizations will be represented in a General Session at 8:00 a.m. titled Industry Leaders Speak Out: A Candid Discussion About Design-Build Opportunities and Challenges

Rapid evolution in the AEC industry means no one organization can go it alone. Mutually beneficial relationships with other leading industry organizations foster continuous improvement through collaboration. With a diverse membership comprising general and specialty contractors, architects/engineers, academia and Owners, DBIA values the diverse views and perspectives of allied organizations, many of which include DBIA members on their rosters. For this session, DBIA has invited leaders from the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), American Institute of Architects (AIA), Associated General Contractors of America (AGC), Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) and Construction Owners Association of America (COAA) to work together to address trends, issues and concerns and begin the process of brainstorming solutions — together.

VDC Leadership Exchange

Along with the challenges, opportunities and growth of the design-build project delivery method across the industry, Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) is also seeing its own evolution. To highlight the importance of understanding how VDC fits into your projects –– regardless of your role –– this year’s Virtual Design & Construction Leadership Exchange (VDCLEx) is co-located with the Design-Build Conference & Expo on Oct. 31. This half-day pre-conference event will explore how VDC is impacting designers, builders and Owners by enhancing design excellence, increasing quality and productivity, and improving lifecycle costs. The event includes a general session, Leaders Forum and specialized tracks for experienced VDC professionals and those new to VDC.

Design-Build Done Right® increasingly includes guidance on how industry professionals can effectively use VDC, especially early in projects. Similarly to Design-Build Done Right®, VDC Done Right addresses project challenges while providing valuable outcomes for their clients.

No matter your level of VDC experience, the VDCLEx offers opportunities to better understand how design and construction technology and emerging processes are integral to driving greater efficiencies on design-build projects. The natural merger of VDC and project delivery, combined with the evolution of future tech innovations, will continue to highlight the value being realized by design-builders and owners across the built environment.

Spend the Day with CMAA and DBIA

Prior to the DBIA Design-Build Conference & Expo, National Harbor welcomes CMAA2023, the Construction Management Association of America’s (CMAA) annual conference, taking place the last week of October at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center. Attendees to the DBIA Design-Build Conference & Expo can access a special day pass to join CMAA2023 activities on Oct. 31.

The day pass includes access to PDH/CEU-generating education sessions, including a special session featuring DBIA experts from 2:45–3:45 p.m. called The Construction Manager (CM)/Owner Advisor (OA) Role in Successful Design-Build.

In this session, you will learn about how the growth and evolution of design-build impacts CM/OA roles and the types of skills and qualifications design-build Owners are seeking in a CM/OA. This robust dialogue features subject matter experts from DBIA discussing how the increasing complexity of project delivery and the nuances of design-build impact the role of the CM/OA and the future impact of design-build on the CM/OA profession.

To take advantage of this offer, register through the CMAA2023 website and add the Spend a Day with CMAA ticket to your cart. Use code DBIA2023 to get this pass for only $100.
